Time to live up to the "novel idea (1)" that allows me "say anything I want to say (2)" about my experience with The Logan.
KD was invited to a Labor Day barbeque extravaganza last month. KD accepted the invitation with time to spare.
The band arrived at the location just a few minutes before KD. They were outside having some brews as I walked up to the house. The greetings rang around as we cheered to a hot day.
Conor Logan, drummer/vocalist was a bit weary about the show. It turns out the other bands were not as loud or ferocious as "The Logan."
"We definitely can't play Princess," said Brian (lead guitar/bass). "I'll sing a censored version of it," said Logan.
Imagine a bunch a teenagers showing up to a family wedding and jamming their "F authority" set in front of Grandma and Grandpa. That's the situation the band faced.
Then while deciding how much equipment should be brought to stage, Logan, Brian and I thought how "this ground is not the rock I, thought it to be." It was a nice brainstorm of what songs to cover.
We spent some time admiring their big green van that runs them from the east coast to the west coast. The van runs on a diesel engine. I had a smoke while Logan explained how the van was going to save them money on the road. The whole thing was a vat of oil that left my mouth dry and eager for music.
With Logan behind the drums and Brian on a guitar, the guys played a great set. Brian has been filling in for the absent bassist. He's tuned to play a deep bass riff while still being able to jam his guitar through the music. The highlight of the show was of course, "Princess."
"40 Year Anniversary" was like Logan said, "A song meant to inspire." Its slow start and deep message still ring in this fan's ears today.
"We have CDs for sale." Logan said. "Please help us out pay back our wonderful hosts. Every penny you contribute for a Logan CD is going to help clean this place up." They finished their set with honor and the words to "Shine on You."
I encourage everyone that reads this listen to their music. They will be playing this Friday at The Joint.
Quotes: 1. Conor Logan, "Merlin" 2. Tamika Jacobs, "Can of Beef."
